Recreational park to get RM500,000 makeover

KUCHING: Pending Recreational Park will be refurbished over the next three months with the aim of turning it into a multipurpose park.

Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Mayor, Datuk Wee Hong Seng, said the effort which will be carried out over 14 weeks beginning Aug 22 at a cost of about RM494, 447.

“We are trying the refurbish with materials that we have at the moment and also use funding that we get from the National Landscape Department,” he said at a briefing on the project here Yesterday (Aug 22).

The objective, he said, is to upgrade it for use during any occasion besides recreational purposes.

Landscape architect for the project, Sharon Lee, said some of the new features and beautification works would include upgrading the footpath and drainage, signage, pergolas, benches, outdoor shed, children’s playground and fitness equipment as well as the maintenance of existing plants and planting new ones including trees, shrubs and turfing.

Wee meanwhile said the council planned to upgrade at least one or two parks every year.
