KUCHING: The Exco members of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Women’s Wing and Sarawak Women and Family Council (MWKS) call upon the relevant authorities to take stern action against individuals for making uncalled for remarks against Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Dato Sri Nancy Shukri.

This was pointed out by Minister of Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development, Dato Sri Hajah Fatimah Abdullah at a press conference in her office at Baitulmakmur Building here, yesterday.

She added that the relevant authorities such as the police and Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) enforcement officers must take stern action as provided under the law to punish the individual (s) involved and also as a deterrent for others.

“This matter has gone viral in the social media and was denied many times by Dato Sri Nancy Shukri since 2015. In the viral posting she has said that ‘bumiputera akan mencuri kalau tidak di bantu kerajaan’ (bumiputera would resort to stealing if they are not helped by the government). The statement is a fake one.

“Her statement to the press was taken out of context and she has denied many times and the matter should be put to rest,” Fatimah said.

She added that a remark make by an individual that ‘dia ni kalau tak jadi Menteri memang jadi pelacur’ (if she is not a minister she would be a whore) was viewed as a remark with utter disdain and condemnation.

“Calling anyone a ‘pelacur’ is simply derogatory let alone to a respectable woman Minister who had made immense contributions to the nation and state.

“The remark is uncalled for and without justification, is being irresponsible, demeaning and defamatory,” she pointed out.

Fatimah also said that PBB women members and MWKS are taking a strong and united stand and condemn in the strongest term those who chose to cross the line and resorting to name calling and making untowards remark to another person irrespective of their status in life.

“When it affects one person, it affects all of us and we were told that police reports have been lodged by a certain quarter as well as Nancy herself against the individual concerned,” Fatimah said.

Meanwhile, when asked on the name list for PBB women candidates in the coming 14th General Election (GE14), Fatimah said it was a consensus.

“That is a consensus, we don’t decide the list, it has always been a consensus and we have to wait if there are new candidates,” she said.
