KUCHING: The first phase of relocation involving 126 families from three Seberang Hilir villages to the Sungai Bedaun Settlement Project is expected to commence in April.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the relocation would include extended families from the heads of households (KIR) of Kampung Panglima Seman Lama, Kampung Semarang and Kampung Pulo Ulu, who have already moved to the Darul Hana development project.

“In the development of Darul Hana, the government is also taking into consideration the needs of the families’ children and possibly in-laws.

“Therefore, we implemented this project to accommodate them, with the primary objective to provide housing for at least one extended family within each core family.

“As of now, the first phase’s development, consisting of 209 housing units, is expected to be fully completed in the first quarter of this year; with 126 eligible families relocated by this April at the latest.”

He said this during a press conference after conducting a work visit to the Sungai Bedaun Settlement Project implemented by the Land Custody and Development Authority (LCDA) here today (Jan 6).

Additionally, he said the development of the second phase of the Sungai Bedaun Settlement Project will include 217 housing units which are currently in its construction phase.

“The relocation of extended families that have been selected based on criteria to buy a house in this project will be relocated in phases, according to the level of development carried out here,” he said.

The first phase of the project spans 46 acres, featuring 209 single-house units of four different types. Housing prices vary based on size, with 750 square feet homes priced at RM99,500 and 850 square feet homes at RM120,000.

To facilitate the purchase, the Sarawak government offers a RM10,000 deposit, hence, reducing the financial burden on the buyers.

The remaining balance can be financed through Mutiara Mortgage and Finance, enabling purchasers to pay only RM89,500 for a house valued at RM99,500.

According to Abang Johari, this pricing model, similar to the Rumah Spektra Permata in Kemuyang, Sibu, will serve as a benchmark for the upcoming rural housing developments in Gedong, Kabong, Asajaya, Sambir and Santubong.

Furthermore, Abang Johari added that residents can consider future expansions by following pre-approved plans for ground-level extensions.

“The plan is standard. If the residents have the means to do it (expansion) later, you must follow the plan that has been prepared.

“This means that you need not get approval from DBKU because we have already approved the expansion plan, which is standard for all houses here,” he added.
