KUCHING: Sports can unite Sarawakians, said Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap Yau Sin.

He said sports tournaments should be encouraged to promote harmony in the state.

With harmony, he added, all the goals set by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg could be achieved.

Yap said this after the prize presentation ceremony for Yap Yau Sin 2023 Ping Pong Cup at Sarawak Youth and Sports Complex here yesterday (March 5).

Extreme Yellow team won the tournament while the Samarahan B team came second and the KRB Team C and Samarahan C teams tied for the third place.

For the record, 42 teams from various districts of Sarawak competed in the tournament, which was organised by the Darul Barakah Table Tennis Club and STAF UNIMAS Table Tennis Club.

Yap served as the event’s primary sponsor and provided RM6,250 to its organisation in December 2022.

The competition took place throughout the weekend of March 4 and 5 (Saturday and Sunday), with the winner receiving RM1,000 in addition to medals and the trophy.
