KATIBAS: Plans are underway to establish suitable legislation to preserve the forests and Ulu Katibas River for the future.

Katibas assemblyman Lidam Assan emphasised the immense value of the Ulu Katibas area as a national treasure.

As such, he urged the local community to refer any interested companies to the Song District Office before proceeding with development initiatives.

“This is to prevent fraud and the destruction of the environment in the area,” he said during the Ulu Katibas ‘miring’ ceremony at Nanga Beloh Ulu Katibas on Sunday.

He pointed out that the Katibas River is an important place where special freshwater fish grow and live, like the famous Empurau, Semah, Tengadak, and Labang fish.

“The river is not only famous for its unique fish, but it is also renowned for producing our beloved Dabai Song,” he added.

Also present was political secretary to Premier Tapah Ata.
