Residents act quick to prevent major longhouse blaze

KATIBAS: Swift action by six residents of Tr Nyangun longhouse at Nanga Miaw here, managed to save their 13-door longhouse from being engulfed by flames on Tuesday.

The fire, which broke out at around 4.35 pm, occurred from a three-pin socket box at one of the units on the top floor of the longhouse.

Six local heroes acted promptly by grabbing eight fire extinguishers to douse the flames that caused only one per cent damages to the structure.

Firefighters from Song station were dispatched to the scene after receiving a distress call.

They had to use the residents’ boat to cross Katibas River to reach the scene.

Upon arrival, the team conducted a thorough examination of the scene to ensure that there was no risk of reignition.

After confirming the situation was safe, the team ended their operation at 5.52 pm.
