GEDONG: Despite the intense heat, Gedong residents, from all ages and backgrounds, eagerly anticipated the arrival of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

The Premier was scheduled to join the community here for the breaking-of-fast at Al Kawthar Gedong Mosque today (April 6).

Upon his arrival at around 6 pm, Abang Johari was warmly welcomed by former Gedong assemblyman Datuk Sri Mohd Naroden Majais, Batang Sadong MP Rodiyah Sapiee, and the chief executive officer (CEO) of New Sarawak Tribune and Suara Sarawak, Datuk Dr. Jeniri Amir.

Subsequently, Abang Johari provided financial assistance to 600 asnafs (individuals in need), with half being from the Gedong Service Centre and the remainder supported by Lembaga Tabung Haji Sarawak. These beneficiaries hail from the Gedong district area.

Also present at the event was the Minister for Utility and Telecommunication and Sebuyau assemblyman Datuk Seri Julaihi Narawi.

Following the distribution, Abang Johari, donning a dark green jubah, participated in the breaking of the fast with the local community. He later mingled with the attendees after the Maghrib prayers.
