GEDONG: The Datuk Patingg Ali Hall here is set to undergo transformation and be equipped with modern technology and facilities.

During TVS Prihatin programme held today (Nov 11), Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, who is also Gedong assemblyman, said that the hall would undergo upgrades, with the tender set to be released next year.

He said the hall would be equipped with the latest facilities and technologies.

New Sarawak Tribune spoke to some of the local residents to get their views on the upcoming transformation of the landmark, which is frequently used for community activities in the Gedong area.

ABANG IDERIS ABANG JEMALI
Information chief, Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Gedong branch

I wish to express my gratitude to Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg for announcing the improvement of this hall, where its equipment will be as advanced as those at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK). The hall has undergone various transformations since 2004, evolving from a small hall to the large hall it is today. From the beginning, this hall was small, but later it was upgraded to become even bigger and is frequently used for community activities in the Gedong area, aside from the Gedong Community Hall. It is the only place used for large-scale events that can accommodate between 500 to 1,500 people at once.

The upgrade will be beneficial for the people of Gedong. As there are many activities such as dinners organised by various groups in the Gedong area, it will be more comfortable for us to hold events.

AWIN NGINDANG, 61
Village chief of Tanjung Sap

I am grateful to the Sarawak government, especially Abang Johari, for upgrading the hall for the use of Gedong residents, as this has been the aspiration of the people of Gedong. Not only this hall but for other facilities and infrastructure, we hope they will also be upgraded.

SEMUEL JERUIT
Longhouse chief from Ulu Gedong.

The hall is essential for the people to carry out activities. Even though there are fans, it’s still hot to conduct activities. With the mentioned upgrades, we can conduct activities more comfortably. Various activities such as cooking and various community programmes are carried out because this hall is the centre for us. Everyone goes to this hall.
