SERIAN: Serian incumbent Datuk Seri Richard Riot aims to bring the Serian Division to a greater height in the next five years.
Riot said with his experience, he is able to bring the division to new heights and achieve a higher level of success.
“I was a former Deputy Foreign Minister, then as a former Minister of Human Resources and currently as the Special Envoy to the Prime Minister for East Asia with ministerial status.
“Serian is the youngest division in Sarawak, and is already developing. And through my experience, I am confident and this is my vision that I want to bring Serian to a greater height,” he said.
He said this after officiating at the launching of GPS Women election machinery at Dewan Sri Riot, Kampung Pichin here recently.
Having served as Serian MP since 1990, Riot, 71, said he is still very fit and ready to continue to serve the constituents.
“Age is just a number. I’m both physically and morally fit. There are those who are still running for office at 78. And yet another one is already 96,” he said.
On another note, Riot hoped that the Immigration, Customs and Quarantine (ICQ) office in Tebedu will have a new complex.
“This is to meet the rising demand of border crossing between Sarawak and Kalimantan. It is also crucial as it is the only international gateway between Malaysia and Indonesia,” he said.
The federal government, he said, has approved RM100 million and on top of that, the Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has agreed to provide allocation on a ‘one-to-one’ basis for the Tebedu ICQ.
“This means that if the federal government allocates RM100 million, then the state Government will also allocate RM100 million,” he said.
