OYA: The Batang Oya River Restoration Plan involving Oya weekend market in Mukah
started on July 23 and is expected to be completed in 12 months.
People in Mukah are excited because the construction of the river erosion barricade will not only save but beautify Oya Town and weekend market.
The project, costing RM4 million has been tendered out to Aldona Contractor.
Officiating at the earth-breaking ceremony recently was Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah, the patron of Sabtu Oya Town committee.
According to Oya Town committee chairman Arini Suhaili, the project was approved by Barisan Nasional (BN) in 2018, but following the change of government, it was delayed.
“Oya people have every reason to thank the state government because in a yearfrom now we will be able to see a new landscape here,” Arini said.
