KUCHING: Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian has given the thumbs-up to Putrajaya’s decision to extend the recovery phase of the movement control order (RMCO) until March 31.

The Minister of Local Government and Housing said it is a wise decision to once again extend the Covid-19 related restrictions.

He said once the Prevention and Control of Infectious Disease Act 1988 (Act 342) is declared nationally, the Sarawak Public Health Protection Ordinance will run concurrently.

“It’s a wise decision for the CMCO in Malaysia to be extended until March 31, as the worse in West Malaysia is yet to come, and the most dangerous period of Covid-19 pandemic in the whole of Malaysia, including Sarawak, is from now until the next few months,” he said in a Facebook posting today (Jan 1).

He said regardless of how tired, exhausted, fatigued, stressed and frustrated one could get, everyone must stay vigilant.

“Don’t give up, especially now when the end of the Covid-19 pandemic is in sight. Let’s not let any Sarawakian die of Covid-19 this year when the vaccine is around,” he said.

Meanwhile, Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Ismail Sabri Yaakob today announced the extension the restriction until March 31, saying the decision was made following a risk assessment conducted by the Ministry of Health (MoH) which noted that a significant rise in Covid-19 cases nationwide, with a high infectivity rate.

“This order has been gazetted in the Federal Government Gazette,” he said in a statement.

The gazette, titled Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Declaration of Infected Local Areas) (NO 7) Order 2020, was signed by Health Minister Dr Adham Baba on Dec 31, 2020.

The gazette reads:

“The operation of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Declaration of Infected Local Areas) Order 2020 [P.U. (A) 87/2020] which had been extended for the period from Sept 1 2020 to Dec 31 2020 by the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Declaration of Infected Local Areas) (Extension of Operation) (No.6) Order 2020 [P.U. (A) 253/2020] is further extended for a period from Jan 1 to March 31 this year.
