Road closure for deity procession on March 29 – 31

KUCHING: Over 200 contingents are expected to participate during the coming weekend “Seng Ong Deity” procession which will start on March 29 (Friday) until March 31 (Sunday).

The procession is set to take place along Wayang Street and is predicted to draw approximately 20,000 visitors and onlookers.

To coordinate the procession, road closures will be initiated in stages, affecting various roads including Wayang Street, Tabuan, Ban Hock, Padungan, Bukit Mata Kuching, Bazaar, Gambir, Khoo Hun Yeang, Tun Abang Haji Openg, Carpenter Street and Ewe Hai Street.

These selected roads will be closed to the public to facilitate the event. They are Main Bazaar Street towards Tun Abang Haji Openg Street, Tun Abang Haji Openg Street towards Padang Merdeka, Tabuan Street towards Ban Hock Street, Tabuan Street towards Wayang Street, Padungan Street towards Bukit Mata Kuching, and Temple Street towards Main Bazaar. These road closures begin on March 31 (Sunday) at 3pm until midnight.

Motorists are urged to use alternative routes to avoid congestion. For those travelling through Tabuan Streer may use the East Central Street or McDougall and making a U-turns at designated locations to avoid closed roads.

The relevant authorities have sternly advised no parking along the roadside and encouraged the public to plan their journey accordingly.
