KUCHING: The public going for swab tests at the Covid-19 One-Stop Centre (COSC) at the Kuching City South Council (MBKS) community hall are urged to take note of the route diversion, starting Tuesday (Aug 24).

A route diversion for all vehicles going to the MBKS community hall, currently used as a Covid-19 swab test centre, will start Tuesday at 6.30am until further notice.

(Refer to diagram) Those who are coming from Jalan Sekama and Jalan Padungan (in blue), will have to enter the MBKS compound at the left and make a roundabout to get to the community hall.

The same goes to those coming from Jalan Tan Sri Datuk William Tan, Jalan Pinang and Jalan Lumba Kuda (in red), who will have to enter the MBKS compound through the back route to get to the community hall.

In case of traffic congestion at the COSC entrance (in green), road users are advised to make another round into the MBKS compound before entering the community hall.

Kuching police chief ACP Ashmon Bajah explained that the road diversion was due to the increase of vehicles and the number of people going for swab tests on a daily basis.

“I advise all road users to comply with the instructions of the on-duty police officers and the traffic signs that have been placed to facilitate the journey in and out of the community hall.

“They are also advised to plan their travel according to the COSC’s operating hours and avoid simultaneous attendance, especially during peak hours like early in the morning.

“If you have other business to attend to in the city centre, you are advised to use different routes other than Jalan Padungan.”

ACP Ashmon warned that action under the Road Transport Act 1987 would be taken against anyone flouting the directives.
