Royal couple moved by rousing welcome

Their Majesties arrived at Pantai Bungai.

MIRI: The Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah and Raja Permaisuri Agong, Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah were visibly moved by the rousing welcome they were given at Pantai Bungai, Bekenu on Sunday.

Saying it will forever remain in their hearts the King apologised for not being able to greet the more than 3,000 people who had gathered there personally.

“I love you all, as much as I love my wife and family,” declared the monarch who is on a Kembara Kenali Borneo sojourn with his family and accompanying entourage from Sabah to Sarawak, travelling much of the way on the Pan Borneo Highway.

The 11-day tour will cover a distance of 2,154km along the highway connects Sabah, Sarawak and Brunei.

Upon their arrival here, their Majesties signed the Kembara Kenali Borneo 2023 plaque before proceeding to a royal banquet.

In Bintulu afterwards, their Majesties are scheduled to visit the Kampung Penan Muslim at Batu 10 followed by a visit to the acting Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak Tan Sri Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar’s residence.

They will thereafter head for Sibu, Sri Aman and Kuching with the tour culminating at Telok Melano on Sept 13.

Earlier at Pantai Bungai they were received by Deputy Health Minister Lukanisman Awang Sauni, Sarawak Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki,  Minister for Transport Sarawak Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin , Deputy Minister for Women, Childhood and Community Development Datuk Rosey Yunus, Deputy Minister of Youth ,Sport Entrepreneur Development  Minister Dr Ripin Lamat.
