LUNDU: The current site of the Rural Growth Centre (RGC) in the Opar constituency area is set to undergo a transformative redevelopment as a Metropolitan Food Cluster (MFC) development area.

Opar assemblyman Billy Sujang pointed out the need for successful implementation of the project rather than just remaining a topic of discussion.

“We have obtained approval from the ministry to develop this area, with a crucial focus on benefiting the local community.”

These remarks were made during the Opar MFC Project Introduction Programme, graced by the presence of Minister for Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development, Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom, on Friday (June 23).

Billy further highlighted that the MFC development not only brought forth investment opportunities but also aimed to create employment for the local community.

“The development of this MFC will also involve Kampung Stungkor and the surrounding villages. Additionally, we need to embrace the technological advancements from the Netherlands that will benefit our community,” he explained.

Billy called upon the local community to collaborate with participating companies and comprehend the project’s goals and objectives.

“It is crucial for the public to fully understand the primary purpose of this project to avoid any misunderstandings during its implementation phase,” he emphasised.

The MFC’s primary objective is to address issues related to the food production chain and sustainability by establishing climate-resilient and sustainable food production areas.
