KUCHING: Sarawak’s 26th Edition of the Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF) is set to showcase its commitment to sustainable tourism practices while preserving cultural and artistic traditions, nature, and the environment.

According to the press release issued yesterday, the festival, scheduled from June 23 to 25, has already attracted visitors from around the world, with early bird tickets sold out within days of their release.

“To alleviate carbon emissions and prevent congestion, the Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) is providing free shuttle buses for festival-goers from Kuching City and nearby locations to the festival grounds.

“The STB has also taken proactive measures to create a sustainable, eco-friendly festival by banning single-use plastics, encouraging upcycling, and exploring innovative waste management solutions,” it said.

The festival will feature 199 musicians from 12 countries, including Grammy Award winner Gipsy Kings from France, Big Mountain from Jamaica and the USA, and Safi Theatre from Tanzania, among others. Malaysian local talents from East and West Malaysia will also perform, including Zee Avi, Suk Binie, and Aseana Percussion Unit.

Furthermore, RWMF 2023’s theme, “Reflections,” offers festival-goers an opportunity to engage with world music and cultural traditions, connect with and embrace underlying themes and values, and reflect on the connection with nature.

Pre-sale tickets are now available on Klook ticketing platform at lower prices than door-sale prices at the venue during the festival.
