BETONG: An elderly salesman was found lifeless in a hotel at Jalan Sie Meng Chaw today (Jan 22).

Betong police chief DSP Zamry Alli said that they were alerted to the incident around 8.30 am, and the case is being classified as sudden death (SDR).

“Preliminary examination found no signs of foul play related to the death of the 63-year-old man at the scene. However, the police are awaiting the forensic report from Betong Hospital,” he said.

Friends of the deceased revealed that he had a history of heart disease and had undergone treatment at Kota Samarahan Heart Centre about a year ago.

Prior to the discovery, the complainant, a friend of the deceased, had invited him for a routine breakfast around 8 am. Concerned when the calls went unanswered, the friend decided to investigate. After obtaining a duplicate key from the hotel counter, he entered the room and discovered his friend unconscious on the bed.

Earlier, a spokesman for the Civil Defence Force (APM) here stated that they were informed of the incident and dispatched a team to the scene.

Paramedics from Betong Hospital confirmed the man’s death upon arrival. The APM team assisted in retrieving the deceased from the room and transported the body out of the hotel.
