PADAWAN: A salesman with a telecommunication company has fallen victim to a non-existent investment scam, resulting in a staggering loss of RM524,800.

The incident came to light after the 33-year-old victim lodged a police report yesterday (June 5) where he detailed the fraudulent scheme that promised a 20 per cent profit on investment.

Police Commissioner Datuk Mohd Azman Ahmad Sapri said the victim had come across the scheme titled ‘BB Trade VIP’ through Facebook on April 28.

“Intrigued by the scheme, the victim clicked on the ‘Learn More’ link and he was connected to a “Justin Kang” through two phone numbers – 011-40086359 and 011-56376504.

“The suspect then explained to the victim that a 20 per cent profit can be obtained based on the value of the investment made.

“Before investing, the victim was told to deposit money into several accounts as service charges for the ‘BB Trade VIP’ investment scheme,” he said.

Without a shadow of doubt, the victim proceeded to transfer RM524,800 into seven different bank accounts via 19 transactions between April 28 and June 5.

Mohd Azman said that despite his substantial investments, the victim never received any profits from the investment scheme.

It was, at this point, that the victim began to suspect foul play and realised that he had been cheated after the suspect could not be reached through the two phone numbers.

The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property.

The offender can be sentenced to jail for a term of up to 10 years, and whipping, and is also liable to a fine, upon conviction.
