KUCHING: A recent courtesy visit between Minister of Transport, Datuk Sri Lee Kim Shin and the Malaysia Aviation Commission (Mavcom) aimed to further solidify the partnership and mutual support between both entities.

Lee explained that the relationship is not only beneficial for Sarawak as a whole but is also crucial for effectively addressing issues related to air connectivity and aviation regulation within the state.

“It is commendable to see federal officers and regulatory bodies getting on the ground to witness and comprehend the actual situation.

“This is essential when it comes to resolving significant issues, particularly in the field of transportation, such as road and aviation,” he remarked in his recent statement.

During the visit, several key matters were discussed, including airfares, particularly during festive seasons and school holidays, enhancing international air connectivity to Sarawak, upgrading facilities at Kuching International Airport, with a specific focus on the international departure lounge, and extending the Miri Airport terminal, which also involves improving existing facilities.

“I also highlighted the urgency to expand and upgrade the Kuching and Miri cargo terminal and logistics facilities.

“Proper air cargo terminal facilities are essential for efficient air logistics and cost effective air flight services.

“With the growth of e-commerce, especially online business around the region, air logistic operation must be efficient and plays a vital role in supporting various economic activities in Sarawak,” Lee added.
