KUCHING: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) Sarawak yesterday announced its decision to quit Pakatan Harapan (PH) Sarawak.

Its chairman Jaziri Alkaf A. Suffian said the decision was in line with the party leadership’s at national level to quit the coalition.

“Since our central leadership decided to quit the coalition, we also quit the coalition at the state level,” he said when contacted yesterday.

On the possibility of joining hands with Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) especially in facing the next state election, Jaziri said there was no discussion yet.

“So far, we have not been in touch with the GPS on the possibility.  In the meantime, we’ll continue to operate as usual,” he added.

Bersatu has announced leaving PH in a statement issued by its president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

Following the announcement, all PPBM MPs also left the coalition. They have signed a statutory declaration (SD) to declare their continued support for Dr Mahathir to remain as prime minister, he said.

Jaziri believed Dr Mahathir’s decision was made after giving due consideration to the current political development and the future of the country.

Dr Mahathir has also resigned as Bersatu chairman with immediate effect after he submitted his resignation letter as prime minister to the Prime Minister’s Office several hours earlier.
