Sarawak cases up again

KUCHING: Sarawak recorded 464 new Covid-19 cases today, 59 more than the previous day’s number of 405.

The total number of cases in the state now stands at 75,211 while the death toll remains at 459.

The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said Kuching accounted for 184 new cases followed by Serian with 79, Samarahan (66), Meradong (21), Bintulu (19), Bau (16), Sibu (15) and 10 each in Tebedu and Tatau.

Nine cases were recorded in Asajaya, Dalat (seven), Lundu (six), Miri (five), Mukah (four), Kapit (three) and two each in Saratok and Telang Usan.

The districts of Simunjan, Betong, Song, Pusa, Selangau and Beluru recorded one new case each.

SDMC added that 349 cases are close contacts to positive cases and 17 are from active clusters.

There are 42 cases from screenings of symptomatic individuals at health facilities and 56 from other screenings at health facilities.

On another note, SDMC said 278 patients were also discharged from hospitals and low-risk treatment centre (PKRC), bringing the number of active cases to 4,754.

“A total of 144 cases are from Sarawak General Hospital and its PKRC, PKRC Serian (31), Miri Hospital and its PKRC (29), PKRC Betong (25), PKRC Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (13) as well as Sibu Hospital and its PKRC (12).

“There are 10 cases from Sarikei Hospital and its PKRC as well as Bintulu Hospital and its PKRC respectively, PKRC mukah (three), Kapit Hospital and its PKRC (one).”

The number of recovered and discharged cases is now 69,828 or 92.84 percent of the total number of cases in the state.
