KUCHING: Malaysian craftsmen are set to gain international exposure for their skills and crafts heritage at the London Craft Week, which coincides with the coronation of King Charles III.

The event, held at the Malaysian High Commission, United Kingdom, is under the patronage of Her Majesty Seri Paduka Baginda Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah.

In a press release yesterday, Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said that the London Craft Week is a very meaningful event for the artisans and craftsmen who are participating.

He further added that the event will feature nearly 700 artisans participating and showcasing their work at high commissions, embassies, and various venues across London.

Sarawak’s skilled artisans will also showcase their exceptional crafts and rich cultural heritage until May 14 through live demonstrations of ‘Keringkam’ embroidery, ‘pua kumbu’ weaving, basketry weaving, and ceramic beading at the event

It is expected to attract over 3,000 international visitors who will have the opportunity to learn about the history and significance of each craft to Sarawak’s unique ethnic groups.

Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud and his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Raghad Kurdi Taib, are expected to make an official visit to London Craft Week with Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
