Sarawak delegation on study visit to Singapore

KUCHING: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg led a delegation to Singapore on Today (July 6) and met with officials of the Government of Singapore Investment Corporation (GIC).

The delegation was briefed on the operations, governance structure, investment strategies and policy framework of GIC, one of three financial entities that manages the financial assets of the Singapore government.

Abang Johari is accompanied by his deputies Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas and Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, acting State Secretary Datuk Seri Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki and State Financial secretary Datuk Seri Wanliz Othman on the five-day visit.

The trip is part of the study that will lead to the establishment of Sarawak’s own Sovereign Wealth Fund as announced by the Premier previously.

Later, the delegation met with Singapore’s Minister of Manpower and Second Minister of Trade and Industry Tan See Leng. This was followed by a joint meeting with Singapore’s Minister of Sustainability and Environment Desmond Lee and Minister of National Development Grace Fu.

GIC has assets in over 40 countries and offices in 10 key financial cities with over 1,800 employees globally and Net Investment Returns Contribution estimated at SGD21.56bil in Financial Year 2022.
