Sarawak Energy prepares to keep Gawai lights on

KUCHING: Sarawak Energy’s contingency plans and teams are ready for quick deployment to keep the lights on or facilitate quick restoration of electricity during the the upcoming Gawai Dayak celebrations.

Sufficient manpower have been assigned to technical teams who will be on 24-hour standby.

“Customers can also play a role in keeping families and communities safe through electrical safety and saving tips for an enjoyable festive celebration with loved ones,” Sarawak Energy said in a statement.

For residences where celebrations and gatherings will take place, Sarawak Energy has advised to use energy-efficient electrical appliances and ensure that they are safe to use.

“Check all electrical equipment regularly and keep them in good condition, do not overload electrical sockets with multiple pin adapters and extension cables to prevent potential fire due to electrical circuit overload and ensure all electrical sockets are in good condition, and last but not least, untangle all extension wire coils when using to avoid them from overheating,” it added.

As for those who will be travelling, it suggested the use of a timer switch should they need the lights on for security reasons while away.

Sarawak Energy also cautioned against illegally extending internal wiring circuits, especially during festive seasons as such illegal extensions might overload Sarawak Energy’s electrical system, leading to supply interruptions, along with raising the risk of fire.
