One of the highlights of the Year 2022 was the Sarawak Foundation’s (Yayasan Sarawak’s) 50th Anniversary.

The foundation was established on May 27, 1971, under the Sarawak Foundation Ordinance.

As the country enters the recovery phase of the pandemic, the year 2022 has been fruitful for the Sarawak Foundation.

This year, there were over 130,000 beneficiaries, with a total estimated disbursement of RM57 million.

The foundation continues to offer educational help in the form of scholarships, scholarship loans, and other school programmes and services.

More than 17,000 students received scholarships totalling RM8 million for the year 2022.

With a total disbursement of RM32 million, the scholarship-loans provided have helped around 4,800 students.

Students who excelled academically received a total incentive of RM8.7 million on their scholarship loans. This benefited 900 students in all.

Aside from that, the Sarawak Foundation provided educational support through programmes such as High Performing Rural Schools (HIPERS), English Enhancement Program, School Uniform Assistance, Free School Bus Services, Secondary School Tuition Assistance, Students’ Retreat Program, and many more.

The foundation provides the Anugerah Khas Premier Sarawak, Anugerah Graduan Cemerlang, and other awards to schools and students who have excelled academically.

All of these programmes have benefited around 110,000 students and schools, totalling more than RM16 million for the year 2022.

Through the Sarawak Foundation, the Sarawak government has continued to assist Sarawakians with their PTPTN loans.

The RM36 million collaboration with PTPTN has benefitted more than 11,000 students with their PTPTN loans. The government seeks to alleviate the burden of student debt.

Furthermore, the foundation has distributed 150 computers to 21 schools through its YS-CAPS programme, a CSR initiative with Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus and PC Image Sdn Bhd.

Since its inception in 2018, the programme has distributed over 500 computers to 65 schools in Sarawak.

The Sarawak Foundation has engaged in over 100 exhibitions and 30 other programmes across the country, reaching an anticipated 86,000 Sarawakians in 2022.

The schools were Sekolah Kebangsaan Nanga Machan, Sekolah Kebangsaan Kalok, Sekolah Kebangsaan Rantau Dilang, Sekolah Kebangsaan Sungai Durin, Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Kanowit, and Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Julau No. 2.

The Sarawak Foundation provides motivational talks as well as briefings on educational programmes and assistance.

Through the visits, the foundation has reached out to over 200 students and 50 teachers.

As the Sarawak Foundation pushes forward in tandem with the Sarawak government’s aspirations in digital economy, the foundation believes that Sarawakians will continue to gain knowledge in digitalisation, regardless of the subject of study they choose to pursue.

The foundation will continue to work hard to help people and advance the development of quality human capital in Sarawak.
