SIBU: The federal government has in principle agreed to return autonomy in education and health to Sarawak, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.

“Yes, that (the return of autonomy in education and health to Sarawak) is already agreed in principle. So, we are now working on the detailing part,” he said when asked by reporter after his walkabout at Sibu Central Market today (Jan 7).

The Petra Jaya MP was responding to questions on whether the return of autonomy in education and health to Sarawak would be among the agenda during the MA63 Action Council’s first meeting expected will be held early February in Kuching.

Fadillah also said that one of the agendas during the meeting would be to finalise the special allocations for Sabah and Sarawak under 112D of constitution.

Meanwhile, on his walkabout Fadillah, who is also Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities shared that he was happy to visit the Sibu Central Market, as he hasn’t been there for a quite some time.

During the walkabout, Fadillah spent time and had breakfast at a stall that he used to visit with his late father.

“I would say that this market is the best in Malaysia. You can’t find any place like this in Malaya, I think people should come here. This can be a tourist attraction.

“I remember even most of my friends those days, whenever they came here, they always talk good about it. They said this is the cleanest market and has all the products that we can look for,” he said.

Also present were Deputy Minister ffor Education, Innovation and Talent Development Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee, Deputy Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government Michael Tiang, Bukit Assek assemblyman Joseph Chieng and Sibu Municipal Council chairman Clarence Ting.
