Sarawak police to monitor urban areas ahead of GE15

KUCHING: Sarawak police are focusing on urban areas expected to be hotspots ahead of the 15th general election (GE15).

Sarawak Commissioner of Police, Datuk Mohd Azman Ahmad Sapri said urban areas such as Bintulu, Bandar Kuching, Stampin, Lanang, Sibu and Miri would be the focus.

In addition, police would also focus on areas where there had been an increase in voters, namely Senadin and Lambir in Miri, Tupong area in Petra Jaya and Santubong.

“Of the 31 parliamenary seats, there have been no reports so far regarding hotspots here because there are no reports of any unwanted incident.

“However, we will always carry out identifying some hotspots as a precaution,” he said after the flag-off of Human Resource Assistance Senior Police Officers (BSM) in conjunction with GE15, at the Sarawak Police Contingent Headquarters (IPK), here on Friday (Nov 4).

Azman added that based on the last state election (PRN12), the election process was peaceful and there were no issues.

Nomination of candidates starts at 9am on Saturday (Nov 5) while early voting is set for Nov 15 and the polling day is Nov 19.
