KUCHING: Sarawak is currently engaged in the process of compiling the necessary documentation to nominate the Sarawak Delta Geopark (SDGp) as a UNESCO Global Geopark.

Having already obtained recognition as a National Geopark on June 20th last year, this endeavour is seen by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan as a pivotal and strategic step towards catalysing economic activities and fostering sustainable development within the state.

Inspired by the success of UNESCO Global Geopark Pulau Jeju in South Korea, Sarawak is taking valuable lessons from its achievements to ensure the Sarawak Delta attains the status.
