KUCHING: Close contacts of Case 33 all tested negative, meaning Sarawak still remains free from the novel coronavirus (Covid-19).

Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian said that the state’s record is still clean when all close contacts of Case 33 tested negative.

Case 33 refers to a 58-year-old man who was in Kuching to attend a meeting on Feb 16 and diagnosed with Covid-19 on March 2.

“All the individuals who have come into close contact with Case 33 had been traced. All of them were tested and all had shown negative results.

“So we are fortunate that Sarawak remains free from Covid-19,” he told reporters when receiving a visit from Sabah-based Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) at Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) headquarters, yesterday.

Despite the good news, Sim advised that Sarawak should continue to protect itself from the virus.

“We are very worried of the potential risk of those infected coming over, be it from Singapore or Malaya, because these two regions are the closest,” he said.
