Sarawak to feature in international book festival

KUCHING: Sarawak will be showcasing culture, creative arts, performing arts, local publications and local handicrafts at the 40th Kuala Lumpur International Book Festival (PABKL) 2023.

PBAKL will be held from May 26 to June 4 at the World Trade Centre (WTC) Kuala Lumpur.

Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts permanent secretary Datum Sherrina Husaini said among the highlights would be bermukun or nopeng, ngajat, sape, songket Sarawak and many more.

The objective is to promote the tourism industry and investment in Sarawak,showcasing and honouring local culture and art, she said.

“The Sarawak Guest State Pavilion will also be hosting the Gawai Day celebration on June 1, and it will be enlivened by cultural performances and traditional Sarawak culinary feasts,” she said at a press conference here on Tuesday (May 23).

She added that Sarawak will also be selling books published by Sarawak libraries and writers, crafts and layered cakes (Kek Lapis) and also have a Sarawak traditional clothing photobooth.

The Sarawak Guest State Pavilion will be officiated by Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah on May 26.

The PABKL 2023 opening ceremony will be officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on May 27.
