Sarawak tourism officials visit Chinese counterparts

KUCHING: The Ministry of Cultural and Tourism of the People’s Republic of China was given a run-down on Sarawak’s eco-tourism and as a suitable business events hub in Southeast Asia.

Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, the Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister, led a delegation from his ministry (MTCP) visited officials of the Chinese ministry to build tourism cooperation between Sarawak and China.

The Sarawak delegation was welcomed by deputy director general of the Department of International Exchange and Cooperation Peng Yubin yesterday (Sept 4).

Among the subject matters discussed were Sarawak as a responsible tourism destination and how it leads in developing eco-tourism and as a growing business events hub in the region.

Other than that, they also discussed matters on travel and visitor exchange, education, policies, and collaboration in tourism, arts, and culture.

Abdul Karim also touched on the possibility of direct flights between Sarawak and China.

Meanwhile, Peng highlighted important matters related to China tourists which included security and safety.

To develop mutual cooperation, he said China will prepare a memorandum of understanding on tourism initiatives.
