KUCHING: Football Association of Sarawak (FAS) is still negotiating with potential coaches and players for the state first team — Sarawak United A.

FAS president Datuk Posa Majais said said he was still unable to provide the full details on the new team, adding that he may be able to do so by next week.

“What I can say as of now is that we are still negotiating with potential coaches and players,” said Posa.

Meanwhile, Posa said most of the players for Sarawak United B team will be made up of players from last year’s Premier League team, besides several players from last year President’s Cup, Youth Cup squads as well as several former Selangor United players.

All Sarawak United B matches will be played in Selangor.

Posa stressed that the rebranding approach by FAS to use Sarawak United A for the state first team in facing this year’s Premier League has received the support of most of its affiliates (divisional football associations).

He said the support was expressed by these affiliates at FAS annual general meeting at a hotel here recently.

“This support is a new development for us and I personally would like to thank these who back us up,” said Posa.

He said the rebranding also involved three other teams under FAS —Sarawak United B, Sarawak United C and Sarawak United D.

Sarawak United B will compete in the M3 League, Sarawak United C in the President’s Cup and Malaysia Games (Sukma) 2020, while Sarawak United D will compete in the Youth Cup 2020.
