MIRI: Parti Keadilan Rakyat has urged Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg to lift the entry ban that is being imposed on several of its key leaders during the upcoming 15th general election (GE15).

PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the move would allow them (PKR leaders) to help the party’s candidates in Sarawak during the November 5 – 19 campaigning period.

“I hope Abang Johari can take down the ban so that our party leaders could come to Sarawak during election campaigns ….we have several names that are being barred from entering Sarawak such as Rafizi Ramli (PKR deputy president), vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar and I hope Abang Johari could consider to drop some of the restrictions, so that they can do the election campaigning fairly during the period,” he told party supporters during the Jelajah Mega Harapan here prior to announcing the party’s candidates for Sarawak yesterday.

Anwar asserted that the party (PKR) do not want to have any issues or conflict with the Sarawak government.

Commenting on the list of candidates, Anwar said the selection of new faces featuring young candidates was essential to help the party to have better chance of winning the seats contested.

For this GE15, two-term incumbent for Miri, Dr Michael Teo has been dropped from the list and instead, the party leadership is replacing him with a 31 year-old lawyer, Chiew Choon Man. He is among 12 new faces fielded by the party in Sarawak for the upcoming GE15.
