KOTA SAMARAHAN: The “Sarawak Maju Makmur” slogan has reminded us of the significance of Sarawak’s independence.

Muara Tuang assemblyman, Datuk Idris Buang, highlighted that Sarawak stands out in Malaysia for its harmonious blend of religions, races, cultures, and ethnicities.

He noted that every July and August, Sarawakians commemorate the nation’s independence.

“Thousands gather annually for various events, including the vibrant independence parade.

“We must cherish and protect this spirit of unity and independence, particularly in Sarawak,” he said this in his speech during the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS) event at the Baiturrahman Surau, Kampung Tanjung Bundong Lot Phase 2 here yesterday.

Idris urged Sarawakians to unite, setting aside differences and progressing collectively.

“While areas like Kota Samarahan have seen significant growth, we should always remember the sacrifices made by our predecessors to gain independence,” he said.

Also present were Deputy Resident of Samarahan Division, Anuar Da’an; Samarahan District Officer, Ahmad Abdul Razak; UKAS Special Administrative Officer, Datuk Takun @ Takon Sunggah; Chief Assistant Director of UKAS Community Monitoring and Development Division, Anwar Hanafi Ardimansyah; Samarahan District Information Officer, Abdul Latif Shamsuddin; Samarahan District Anti-Drug Squad chairman, Junaidi Kaderi and community leaders.
