SARIKEI: The Sarikei Health Clinic is in urgent need of upgrades to meet the growing healthcare demands of the local population.

Deputy Minister of Natural Resources, Environment, and Climate Change Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii said it has been struggling to cope with the increasing demand for medical services in the area.
Huang stressed that the clinic also faces challenges over inadequate parking space, which calls for a suitable solution.

“I have raised this matter four times during the State Legislative Assembly,” he said in a statement on Sunday (July 22).

The Sarikei MP said that during a recent working visit to the health clinic, he proposed to Deputy Minister of Health, Lukanisman Awang Sauni the establishment of a temporary car park to facilitate public parking.
“The Sarikei Health Clinic is also experiencing a shortage of doctor’s rooms and cramped clinic spaces, while the number of patients continues to increase,” he said.

Meanwhile, for Sarikei Hospital, he said it is also facing issues with a lack of medical assets such as haemodialysis machines and ambulances.

“This has resulted in their inability to accommodate the increasing number of patients each year, especially those suffering from kidney disease,” he said.

Hence, Huang hoped the Ministry of Health will take measures to enhance the basic facilities and medical standards of both Sarikei Hospital and Sarikei Health Clinic.
