SIBU: Registration for the vaccine by locals here has reached a satisfactory level, said Dr Annuar Rapaee.

The Sibu Division Disaster Management Committee (DDMC) coordinator stated that for now, 81 percent of the 203,133 residents in Sibu division have registered for the vaccination.

He mentioned that the decision of the locals to get themselves vaccinated is the right choice in order to curb the spread of the Covid-19.

“Sibu DDMC is now doing its best to get the remaining 19 percent who had not yet registered to register for the vaccination. We hope that they will register themselves during the National Covid-19 Vaccination Programme soonest possible.

“We will contact them as we want to reach 100 percent for the registration of this vaccine soon,” he said when met while getting jabbed with the second dose of the vaccine at Lanang Health Clinic.

Dr Annuar hoped that people will take the initiative by signing up for the vaccination programme to put a stop on the pandemic.

Meanwhile, he also revealed seven venues had been identified to hold the massive vaccination programmes for the public which is expected to start from April to August.

“The main venue would be at the Sibu Indoor Stadium which can accommodate around 3,000 people at one time.

“We will inform other venues later after getting approval from the relevant parties,” he added.

Touching on the situation of the Covid-19 outbreak in Sibu, Dr Annuar said that he hoped the Covid-19 infection curve could improve for the better in the next few weeks.

This will be further boosted if there is no further surge of cases from the

newly declared clusters, he pointed out.

Among the dignitaries who also received the second dose of Covid-19 vaccine at the Lanang Health Clinic were Senator Robert Lau Hui Yew; SDDMC chief cum Sibu Resident Charles Siaw; Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) chairman Clarence Ting Ing Horh and Sibu district officer Suhaili Mohamed.
