KUCHING: New Satok assemblyman Datuk Ibrahim Baki was sworn in before State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Speaker Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohd Asfia Awang Nassar today.

He took his oath of office at 11.23am in the DUN chambers during the swearing in ceremony for the assemblypersons who were elected during the recently concluded Sarawak State Election.

Ibrahim was among the eighteen first term assemblymen to be sworn in with, among others, Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing (Dudong), Azizul Annuar Adenan (Tanjung Datu), Datuk Hamzah Ibrahim (Stakan), Lidam Assan (Katibas), Dr Simon Sinang Bada (Tebedu), Michael Tiang (Pelawan), Nicholas Kudi Jantai (Baleh) and Dayang Noorazah Awang Sohor (Lingga).

Last month, Ibrahim paid tribute to his constituents, describing his success in the recent state election as a victory for the people.

He said the victory gave him the spirit to continue the struggle of former Satok assemblyman Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg – who is now into his second term as chief minister – who transformed Satok over the years.

“Therefore, I must work hard and need the concerted efforts from the people. Especially from members of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) branches, whose efforts are needed to develop the Satok area,” he said.

In the state polls, Ibrahim garnered 6,991 votes with a majority of 6,033 votes. He won the Satok seat in a three-cornered fight against Dr Irwan of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) who only managed to secure 948 votes and Awang Badele of Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK) who had only 415 votes.
