PUSA: Batang Lupar MP Mohamad Shafizan Kepli has expressed concern over the dropout rate at schools.

He said there are schools that have a relatively high dropout rate, where the number of students not attending school is worrying.

He called on parents to therefore take the need to have their children attend school seriously.

“I ask parents to pay attention because as rural residents, there is no other way out except through education,” he added.

The Sarawak government, he said, has been emphasising on education through various initiatives and programmes.

“The Community Service Centre for Members of Parliament or Assemblymen, also have their own assistance to encourage children to attend classes,” he said while officiating at the Al-Quran Khatam Ceremony at the Kalok Village Community Hall, today.

The Batang Lupar Member of Parliament’s Community Service Centre, he said, provides annual allocations to all schools every year.

“Allocations are channeled to the Parents and Teachers Association (PIBG) annually at a rate of RM10,000 for secondary schools and RM5,000 for primary schools.

“I advise parents especially to make sure their children go to school,” he said.

This year’s ceremony was attended by 24 Year Six students.
