SIBU: The construction of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Dudong, which was announced in the 2023 Budget, needs to receive special attention from the next Member of Parliament for Lanang.

Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Dudong Branch Chairman Wong Ching Yong said this includes fighting for the construction of Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Dudong which has not yet been approved by the government.

Wong said the construction of these two schools needs to be pursued immediately so that it can cater to the increasing population in Sibu Jaya.

“The only thing I am worried about is this budget, although it has been presented but has not been approved by the Dewan Rakyat.

“For that reason, I hope that whoever is the representative of the people for Lanang should do a follow-up to ensure this school is built immediately. We are close to realising it,” he said at a press conference yesterday (Oct 16).

He said SMK Dudong will be built on a land area of about 20 acres, some two to three kilometres from Sibu Jaya.

He also said that all related processes such as approval from the Land and Survey Department, SESCO, Sibu Water Board, fire department, Drainage and Irrigation Department, and related agencies have already been approved for its construction.

“The application for the construction of SK Dudong and SMK Dudong was initiated by former Dudong assemblyman Datuk Dr Soon Choon Teck in 2010 when he was still serving.

“However, due to certain reasons, this application was rejected under the 10th Malaysia Plan (RMK10) and RMK11 after he (Dr Soon) retired.

“When I held the position of chairman of (SUPP) Dudong branch and deputy chairman of the Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC), I decided to apply again for these two schools.

“We have fought a lot to get these two schools. We have one more school which is SK Dudong to fight for. So, whoever becomes a Member of Parliament for Lanang in the future, should do a follow-up for these two schools,” he said.
