Scouting movement in need of empowerment

BETONG: The scout movement has to be empowered to mould a young generation of Sarawakians who are competitive, responsible and visionary.

State Scout Chief Commissioner Capt Zainuddin Tan Sri Datuk Amar Hamdan Sirat said the movement has come through a long journey of 100 years where it nurtured leadership, excellence and community service among the youth of Sarawak.

“Therefore, I emphasise the importance of empowering the scouting movement in Sarawak.

“My hope is that more young men and women join this movement, so that they can engage in activities that have a positive impact.

“Next, form a young generation that is competitive, responsible and visionary,” he said at the Sarawak Scouts 100 Years Commemorative Certificate Awarding Ceremony here, yesterday.

He said the event also serves as a platform to celebrate the contribution of volunteers and the high commitment of Sarawak scouts.

“I have to express my pride in the commitment of scouts in Sarawak who have worked hard throughout these 100 years.

“Also, I have to admit that the role of scouts is very important in forming quality young leaders who are able to provide service to the community,” he said.

A total of 81 scouts received certificates,14 of them gold awards, 19 silver and 48 bronze awards.

Award Committee Chairman and Sarawak Scout Council member Arthur Lee , Sarawak Scout Executive Secretary Zasran Abdullah, Betong District Scout Commissioner Britt Martin Gana and Betong District Education Officer representative Sebastian Lampun Sebang were also present.
