SPAOH: Scouts in each district can be roped in to help with community activities or social work in villages as well as assist in disaster relief.

Betong District Scout Commissioner Britt Martin Gana said the scouting movement had started in Sarawak around 1915 through missionaries from England.

“The existence of scouts with the motto ‘Menolong Orang Pada Setiap Masa’ (Helping People at All Times) should be known publicly.

“Hence, scouts can actually be directed to help with community activities or social work in villages, including environmental disaster relief,” he said after the Bubur Lambuk Programme organised by the Betong District Scout Association with the cooperation of SK Spaoh, yesterday.

He also said that any quarters that need assistance from scouts can contact the Malaysian Scout Federation Sarawak Branch which is headquartered in Batu Lintang, Kuching.

On the distribution of lambuk porridge that was held for the first time, Britt added that his party prepared 500 packages to donate to the local community.

“Thankfully the programme has achieved its objective with the involvement of 20 scout members who worked together in cooking the lambuk porridge.

“Through this programme, we can also promote the activities of the Betong District Scout Association to the community outside,” he said.
