KUCHING: The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) should remain as it is and there is no need for the committee to be made up of professionals only, said Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi.

The Pantai Damai assemblyman stated that SDMC has been doing a great job in fighting Covid-19 in Sarawak.

“We have seen positive results and management by the SDMC in dealing with the pandemic. They have indeed been doing a great job since the beginning.

“SDMC does not reign in the fight alone and their success is also thanks to the professionals’ help,” he said.

Dr Abdul Rahman also pointed out that SDMC often seeks advice and views from the professional for their decision making.

The Utilities (Water Supply) Assistant Minister and Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department (Islamic Affairs and DBKU) also praised Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah and his team on their excellence.

He said this when asked for comments on Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) Pelawan branch leader Dr Low Chong Nguan’s earlier remarks that professionals should take over SDMC’s roles.

“There is no need for a certain party or individual to disrupt the work done by SDMC especially if it is for political attention.

“Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas and his team have been committed since the very beginning. Information and decisions are promptly disseminated to the public.

“The state government has also been very generous in providing various aid and assistance to the people with the Sarawakku Sayang Special Assistance (BKSS),” he said.
