KUCHING: The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) will redefine and clarify the conditions upon which permits can be issued for movement from zone to zone, with details to be announced on Friday (Apr 16).

SDMC chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said these redefined conditions would be implemented by Monday (Apr 19).

“The details will be announced tomorrow after our discussion with the police,” he said at the SDMC Covid-19 update press conference today (Apr 15).

He said the police would have to understand these conditions well so that when they can issued permits for inter-zone movement.

“At the moment, it is very vague. We just put essential services, which can be interpreted in many ways. And we can see that it needs to be redefined,” he said.

“One of the main contributing factors for the increase in cases is the easy access of travelling from zone to zone,” he explained.

He said this was still apparent although SDMC had issued a rule that travelling from zone to zone would be restricted and controlled.

He said the committee had also decided that starting Monday, no physical meetings are to be organised for the following two weeks. Instead, he said all meetings are to be conducted via Zoom.

“There will also be no travelling to other districts unless deemed necessary, and this requires approval from the head of department,” said Uggah. He also advised for all events to be deferred within the next two weeks.
