KUCHING: Sarawak yesterday reported two more deaths related to the Covid-19 outbreak.

State Disaster Management Committee chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the two patients who died were Rakayah Drahman, 79, and her daughter Norhafizah Abdul Rahman, 40.

“The mother died at a private medical centre here at 2am on Mar 18 while, her daughter died at the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) yesterday (Mar 21) at 1pm.

“Another family member who tested positive for Covid-19 is still warded and is on life support at the Sarawak General Hospital. The source for their infection is still being investigated,” he said in a statement yesterday.

The state’s first fatality was recorded on March 17 involving a pastor from Kuching.

Uggah, who is also the Deputy Chief Minister, pointed out the delay in reporting the death of the woman was because the private medical centre where she was warded had to wait for the test result from a private laboratory in Kuala Lumpur.

It is believed that the two new deaths were linked to the tabligh cluster.

(Inclusive of the woman who died today) and two in Bintulu.

“The state also records another 37 Person Under Investigation ( PUI) cases, bringing an accumulative total of 751 cases. Out of these, 711 cases had tested negative and 40 more are awaiting test results,” he added.
