Sea sport challenge to get bigger next year

MIRI: Water sports events can accelerate the local community’s economic recovery following the Covid-19 pandemic.

Saberkas Bekenu branch adviser Datuk Rosey Yunus  said given this prospect, the branch is planning to host the Peliau Beach Sea Sport Challenge on a bigger scale next year to attract more international tourists.

“Besides, we  also have Pantai Peliau’s night market  which is being held once a month, to attract tourists to the beach,” said Rosey, who is Bekenu assemblywoman, after launching the Pantai Peliau Sea Sport Challenge 2023 on Sunday.

The Deputy Minister for Women, Childhood and Community Development I (Women and Childhood Development said such mass activity in rural areas will complement tourism efforts.

“We have provided various recreational facilities at Pantai Peliau for tourists to come here,” Rosey pointed out.

More than five events were held during the two day event which kicked off on Saturday off Peliau Beach which is located about 55 minutes’ drive from Miri city via the Miri Coastal Road.

It featured bamboo rafting, power pump boat races, paddle boat races and tunnel boat racing.
