Seize study initiatives, Ting tells students

MIRI: The Sarawak government has always been committed to developing the quality of education as well as talent development among students.

Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Sebstian Ting said as such various initiatives have been established for Sarawakian students to create more educational opportunities.

“Among those initiatives are free higher education to all Sarawakians in colleges and universities owned and managed by the state government,” he added.

Thus, he urged students to take advantage of these free education initiatives provided by the state government, by giving their best in pursuing their studies.

“Study is important…and our government is placing education as its priority,” he said at SMK St Columba’s award presentation ceremony on Saturday here.

A total 173 Form Five students for the year 2023 , were awarded various certificates for their achievements.

On another note, Ting also stressed the importance of the English language for the state to progress with the digital economy.

“Whether you like it or not, the importance of English is a fact of life and therefore we must have a good command of the language,” he said, adding that the state is fortunate to have English as an official language besides Bahasa Malaysia,

Also present at the event were the school’s principal, Ha Pick Yieng and the schools’ Parent Teacher Association chairman Karambir Singh.
