Senior citizen reported missing in Mukah found safe

MUKAH: A septuagenarian who went missing during a jungle produce expedition near Rh Bonnie on Sunday (Jan 28) has been found safe on Monday (Jan 29).

According to a spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), Jambai Tuba, 70, was located by longhouse residents around 1.30pm, approximately 4km from the search and rescue (SAR) control post.

Rescue teams promptly provided assistance to the weakened man upon arrival at the location. He was subsequently transported to the hospital for a medical evaluation, and the search operation concluded at 2.10pm.

On Sunday, Jambai and seven companions ventured into the jungle around 11am to gather ‘umbut’ (soft shoots). While his friends returned to the longhouse by 2pm, Jambai did not.

Despite efforts by longhouse residents to locate him in the jungle, their search proved futile.

onsequently, a missing person report was lodged at the police station, prompting SAR assistance.

Firefighters from the Mukah station, along with Balingian auxiliary firefighters, police, Civil Defence Force, and People Volunteer’s Corp, were mobilised to locate the missing senior citizen.
