KOTA SAMARAHAN: Age is not a barrier to acquiring knowledge; it’s just a number that does not at all deter the spirit of learning.

A case in point is 71-year-old Dr Chua Beng Hui @ Bobby Chai Boon Hui, who has successfully completed his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) studies in Corporate Entrepreneurship.

He was among the 544 graduates who received their scrolls on the first day of the Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) 27th Convocation Ceremony held at DeTAR PUTRA, Monday (Nov 5).

“Age is just a number and it doesn’t hinder my dream of continuously improving myself by pursuing higher education,” he said when met by New Sarawak Tribune.

Chua who serves as an Associate Professor at UCSI University, encourages young people to keep learning and take his achievement as an inspiration.

“I want to be an inspiration to the younger generation so they don’t stop acquiring knowledge because it’s a valuable asset,” he said.

He believes that through learning, time can be maximised to its fullest potential, allowing individuals to do something beneficial.

Despite facing challenges while completing his PhD due to his age, Chua is grateful for the strong support he received, including from his supervisors, family, fellow postgraduates, and the university.

“The unwavering support from various parties, including supervisors, family, fellow postgraduates, and the university, greatly helped me in my PhD research process,” he added.

He has served as an educator in higher education for 15 years after retiring from the corporate sector.
