KUCHING: The first of eight overhead pedestrian bridges along the Serian-Pantu stretch of the Pan Borneo Highway near Balai Ringin was successfully installed by the contractor on Wednesday (Jan 11).

The Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS) reported that the 43-metre steel truss-type bridge weighing 46 tons is expected to be opened to the public within two months.

Throughout the process, traffic police officers from the Serian District Police Headquarters controlled the traffic situation in the area as the road was closed for an hour as instructed by the Serian Division Public Works Department (PWD).

Meanwhile, Sarawak PWD Pan Borneo Highway Unit in its Facebook post yesterday said there are 41 overpasses currently in the process of being installed along the 786 kilometres of the Pan Borneo Highway.

“Sarawak PWD will inform the public through social media in the event of road closures due to the installation of the framework of these overpasses.

“We are aware that there may be some disruption to the flow of traffic during this installation work.

“However, cooperation and consideration from all parties is greatly appreciated for the convenience of all Sarawakians when this highway project is fully completed later,” said PWD.
