Seven roads to close from 3 pm to 11.30 pm today for ‘God Pageant’ procession

KUCHING: The public here should take note of seven road closures for the ‘God Pageant Ceremony 2023’ procession today (Aug 22).

The event – a religious celebration of parade where images of divinities are carried through the streets, accompanied with music and performances – is organised by Heng Hua Seng Tiong Society and an estimated 3,000 people are expected to participate from 3.30 pm to 11.30 pm.

The procession will start at Jalan Central Timur and pass through Jalan Padungan, Jalan Bukit Mata, Jalan Green Hill, Jalan Temple, Jalan Wayang, Jalan Main Bazaar, Jalan Tun Abg Hj Openg, Jalan Mcdougall, Jalan Tabuan and Jalan Ban Hock before ending at Jalan Central Timur.

Kuching police chief ACP Ahsmon Bajah said seven roads will be closed from 3 pm to 11.30 pm to facilitate traffic movement.

The roads that will be closed are:

  1. .Jalan Gambir leading to Jalan Main Bazaar
  2. .Jalan Main Baazar leading to Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg
  3. .Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg leading to Padang Merdeka
  4. .Jalan Tabuan leading to Jalan Ban Hock
  5. .Jalan Tabuan leading to Jalan Wayang
  6. .Jalan Padungan leading to Jalan Bukit Mata
  7. .Jalan Temple leading to Jalan Main Bazaar

“In order to reduce traffic congestion, the public are advised to use alternative routes.

“Vehicles travelling through Jalan Tabuan from Jalan Simpang Tiga are advised to travel to Jalan Central Timur or through Jalan Mcdougall to avoid congestion at the Jalan Wayang closure.

“Meanwhile, vehicles travelling from Jalan Haji Taha, shuld make a U-turn at the mosque roundabout to avoid congestion at the Jalan Gambir closure,” he said in a statement.

Ahsmon called for public cooperation not to park their vehicles by the roadside and advised them to plan their journey and choose an alternative route to reduce congestion.
